Key Results
A safe and secure Kenyan maritime territory is key to further develop and expand a sustainable thriving blue economy, while improving the lives and livelihoods of the coastal communities through new income-generating activities and opportunities.
Go Blue aims at enhancing maritime governance through integrated and effective maritime law enforcement hence contributing to the regional and global security and creating a favourable environment for the economic development of the region and beyond. This will entail inter alia capacity development of the Kenya Coast Guard Service to develop a Maritime Strategy supportive of economic blueprints and sea-land plans; support to implementation of the Maritime Strategy related to effective and integrated maritime law enforcement capability in connection with the justice chain and the judicial system including information exchange, standardised equipment, training, combined exercises and operations, vessel maintenance and repair.
Key Targets
- While advocating and encouraging all Kenyan maritime agencies to work and collaborate together effectively, the Go Blue maritime security project will assist Kenya in the development and implementation of its maritime strategy.
- The Go Blue maritime security project will strengthen the capacity of the Kenya Coast Guard Service and other national and regional agencies involved in maritime security, by fostering a culture of information exchange,
- cooperation and collaboration.
- The Go Blue maritime security project will assist Kenya with developing strong legal instruments and regulatory frameworks to address maritime threats and implement maritime law enforcement in the country.
- Facilitating bilateral cooperation with neighbouring countries and enhancing regional cooperation in the area of maritime security is one of the key components of the Go Blue maritime security project in Kenya.
