Associated Vehicle Assemblers (AVA) and Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) today signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop the blue economy sector along Kenya’s Coastline by facilitating marine economic activities towards poverty eradication.
Under this agreement, AVA’s experience in vehicle assembly and engineering will be employed to develop a training curriculum to equip participants with skills such as boat maintenance and repair while providing opportunities for practical learning and attachment. “As we expand our training academy, we realize that this is a golden opportunity to impact the community around us by providing skills that will provoke poverty eradication through establishing businesses and creating employment opportunities,” said Matt Lloyd, the Managing Director of AVA. AVA will further build boats of global quality standards and provide motors and accessories affordably.
During the ceremony, Emmanuel Nzai, the CEO of JKP said, “This partnership enhances our implementation of the Go blue project in the areas of youth employment under establishment of Jumuiya Innovation labs at each of the 6 counties.” He added, “We project that this partnership and the establishment of an academy will drastically increase the number of beneficiaries of the Go blue project from the current 6,000 to 15000 in 2023.”
